GM Listed As Global Energy Awards’ Finalists For 2019

GM’s commitment towards sustainability reflects in all stages of its operations.

Dailycsr.com – 28 November 2019 – S&P Global Platts has listed GM as one of the finalists for its “21st annual Global Energy Awards”, wherein GM has been nominated for the “Corporate Award – Green Initiatives category”. The winners of 2019 for the said award will be revealed on December 12 in the city of New York.
 
The “S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards” was initiated in the year of 1994, whereby it underscores “corporate and individual innovation, leadership and superior performance”. It has divided the performance under twenty one categories which takes into account the “entire energy complex”.
 
GM shares a future vision of “zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion”. Talking about its commitment, GM informed:
“Our commitment to sustainability applies to every part of our business and creates value for customers. It underscores GM’s philosophy of customer-driven sustainability – an approach for meeting customer needs through sustainability by making the mobile experience safer, more efficient, and better integrated with everyday life”.
 
Keeping up with the above mentioned commitment, GM carries out assessment of its operations based on which it also complies in reducing “the environmental impact of its products and operations”. To give such examples would be GM’s attention on “energy management; sourcing renewable energy; carbon and waste intensity reduction; resource preservation; and developing more efficient vehicles through our technological advances, global scale and employee innovation”.
 
Through these goals, GM continues to bring down its “environmental footprint” while sharing its best practices across the globe. GM’s culture is seeped in to sustainability as it sustainably integrates all its function at every level. Moreover, GM also plays a role in “cross-functional efforts” to benefit from “environmental and social opportunities” presented to improve the company as well as the community they work in.
 
Here is a set of GM’s public goals those focus on “carbon reduction in its operations”, as mentioned by GM:
  • Reducing absolute carbon emissions from our operations by 31% from 2010 to 2030, based on science, to reduce global temperature rise to 2050 by 2 degrees Celsius.
  • A renewable energy commitment of 100% renewable electricity by 2050.
  • Reducing energy intensity by 20% from 2010-2020.
