FoodRecovery.org Secures $550,000 Grant from Grubhub Community Fund to Strengthen Food Recovery and Hunger Relief Efforts

FoodRecovery.org has been awarded a $550,000 grant from the Grubhub Community Fund to enhance initiatives focused on preventing food waste and addressing food insecurity. The funding will support key programs such as palletized food recovery, prepared food recovery, and community outreach efforts.

Food insecurity remains a significant challenge across the United States, impacting more than 47 million people. In the Greater Chicagoland area, one in four residents struggles with consistent access to food, while in New York City, nearly 17% of individuals face food insecurity. Nationwide, more than 114 million households experienced food insecurity in 2023, according to USDA data. At the same time, large amounts of safe, edible food are discarded every day—food that could otherwise support families in need.

The grant will enable FoodRecovery.org to expand its food recovery operations by redistributing surplus food to local organizations that provide food assistance. It will also help the organization build new partnerships with donors and recipient agencies, improve logistics capabilities, and support community events that address urgent needs.

With this funding, FoodRecovery.org aims to recover an additional 35 million pounds of food over the next year through palletized and prepared food recovery programs. With support from the Grubhub Community Fund, the organization expects to provide nutritious meals and groceries to approximately 875,000 families, helping reduce household food costs and strengthen communities during times of need.
