FedEx marked a milestone with its first-ever round-trip mission dedicated to panda conservation. The company flew Zoo Atlanta’s giant pandas—Lun Lun, Yang Yang, Ya Lun, and Xi Lun—back to China and brought two young pandas, Qing Bao and Bao Li, to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C. The specially outfitted “Panda Express” Boeing 777 featured custom enclosures, and a team of animal care experts and veterinarians accompanied the pandas to ensure their well-being throughout the journey. Qing Bao and Bao Li will now help raise public awareness about the challenges wild pandas face and highlight the need for habitat preservation.

Chimpanzee Artwork Raises $45,000 for Sanctuary Care
At Art Expo NY, paintings created by residents of the Save the Chimps sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida, generated $45,000 in support of chimpanzee welfare. FedEx contributed by shipping 16 framed pieces to the annual showcase. The event, supported by actors Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, spotlighted the importance of protecting over 220 chimps at the sanctuary who were rescued from laboratories, roadside zoos, the pet trade, and entertainment industries. Phoenix and Mara expressed hope that the artwork would not only raise essential funds but also deepen appreciation for these intelligent animals.

Delivering Fossils to Advance Climate Science
FedEx also played a role in advancing environmental research by transporting a rare collection of plant fossils from the Yale Peabody Museum to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. Dating back 50 to 66 million years, the specimens provide valuable records of Earth’s warmer prehistoric climate. Now part of the world’s largest plant fossil archive, the collection will help researchers better understand ancient climate shifts and ecosystems—knowledge that can inform today’s fight against climate change.
