10/08/2025

The FedEx Founder’s Fund Award, created in 2023 to celebrate Frederick W. Smith’s legacy of service, stands as the highest honor within the FedEx Cares initiative. This global recognition includes grants awarded to nonprofits chosen by employees who have logged the most volunteer hours worldwide.

1st Place – Carol Cope
Carol contributed more than 1,500 volunteer hours across eight different nonprofits last year. Driven by community spirit and the gratitude she receives from those she serves, her efforts span a wide range of causes, including marathons, festivals, and cancer awareness events.

2nd Place – Daniel Russell
As a Scoutmaster, Daniel has guided 70 young men in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He also volunteers at various FedEx Cares initiatives, continuing a lifelong passion for service that began in his high school years.

3rd Place – Scott O’Mary
Scott mentors around 50 Boy Scouts in the Plano area, emphasizing leadership and personal development. He sees this work as an opportunity to give back for the experiences and guidance he received as a young person.

“FedEx Cares is an amazing way to strengthen teams and connect with colleagues beyond the workplace,” said Scott O’Mary.

AMEA Region Top Volunteer – Dwayne van Zyl
Dwayne volunteers with a sea rescue team, working to promote water safety in a region where nearly 1,500 drownings occur annually. Alongside his 10-year-old daughter, he educates underserved communities about the importance of water safety.

“The FedEx Cares program lets me build a meaningful career at FedEx while giving back to my community—a benefit that enriches both my professional and personal life,” said Dwayne van Zyl.

Europe Region Top Volunteer – Steve Miller
Steve dedicates his weekends to woodland management, helping transform his community’s environment from its coal-mining roots into a thriving national forest. Most of his autumn and winter weekends are spent maintaining and preserving local woodlands.

The Americas Region Top Volunteer – Rose Vallee
With nearly 35 years at FedEx, Rose expresses her compassion through cooking hot meals for those in need. For the past seven years, she has prepared 150 meals every week for the homeless through the Meals with Meaning program, turning her passion into a powerful act of service.
