Dyson Launches Supersonic Travel Hair Dryer for Portable, High-Performance Styling

04/21/2026

Dyson has introduced the Supersonic Travel hair dryer, designed specifically for people on the move who don’t want to sacrifice hair care or styling performance. Built with global voltage compatibility, it offers the brand’s signature fast-drying technology wherever you are—whether heading to the gym, traveling for a weekend, or embarking on longer trips. The device aims to deliver consistent styling results while maintaining hair health, no matter the location.

James Dyson, Founder and Chief Engineer, emphasized that the product is more than a scaled-down version. Instead, it has been completely redesigned for travel, combining portability with high performance while safeguarding hair from excessive heat exposure.

Compared to the original Supersonic model, this travel edition is 32% smaller and 25% lighter, making it easy to fit into handbags or carry-on luggage. Despite its compact size, it maintains the powerful performance Dyson is known for and is compatible with attachments from existing Supersonic and Supersonic Nural devices. Its automatic voltage adjustment ensures seamless operation across different countries.

Heat damage remains a leading cause of weakened hair, often due to inconsistent temperature control in traditional dryers. To address this, the Supersonic Travel incorporates intelligent heat regulation that monitors air temperature up to 100 times per second, helping prevent damage while ensuring quick and even drying for smoother, shinier results.

Dyson’s journey in hair care innovation began with the launch of the original Supersonic hair dryer in 2016, which reimagined dryer design by positioning the motor in the handle for improved balance and delivering rapid airflow without relying on extreme heat. This approach set a new benchmark in the industry by prioritizing both efficiency and hair health.

Building on this foundation, Dyson later introduced the Supersonic Nural, featuring a Scalp Protect Mode that adjusts temperature to support scalp comfort and healthier hair growth. While the Nural is optimized for home use, the Supersonic™ Travel extends Dyson’s technology into a more portable format for life on the go.

The new travel dryer also integrates seamlessly with Dyson’s broader hair care ecosystem. It pairs with the Dyson Omega™ leave-in conditioning spray mini, which uses a blend of seven omega-rich oils to hydrate hair, reduce frizz, and protect against humidity—making it especially useful for changing climates during travel.

Over the past decade, Dyson has invested heavily in hair science, focusing on airflow dynamics, temperature control, and ingredient innovation. Research shows that excessive heat can weaken keratin in hair, leading to breakage, while the scalp—home to roughly 100,000 follicles—can be sensitive to environmental changes. Dyson’s technology aims to maintain optimal conditions to support both hair strength and scalp health.

From tools like the Supersonic, Airwrap, Corrale, and Airstrait to its expanding line of hair care formulations, Dyson continues to blend engineering with beauty to create versatile, performance-driven solutions.

According to Dyson Global Styling Ambassador Irinel De Leon, the travel dryer supports modern, low-maintenance styles such as the “air-sculpted wave,” delivering controlled airflow that enhances shine while adding volume at the roots and smoothness at the ends—ideal for effortless, polished looks on the go.

The Dyson Supersonic Travel hair dryer will be available starting April 21, 2026, priced at $299.99. It comes with a Styling concentrator attachment, with additional accessories like a diffuser, wide-tooth comb, flyaway smoother, and gentle air attachment sold separately to suit different hair types and styling preferences.
