Duke Energy Donates $100K to Support South Carolina Food Banks Ahead of Holidays

Duke Energy and the Duke Energy Foundation are donating $100,000 to the One SC Fund, which Governor Henry McMaster recently activated to help support food banks throughout South Carolina.

Why this matters:
As temperatures drop and the holiday season approaches, many families in South Carolina rely on assistance programs to help combat hunger. These programs, however, are experiencing increasing pressure as demand grows. Supporting the groups that provide these essential services is more important than ever.

What they’re saying:
Gov. Henry McMaster: “Duke Energy’s donation to the One SC Fund reflects the best of South Carolina. During a time when many families are uncertain about the future, our state is coming together to bolster our food banks and ensure families can put meals on the table. I appreciate their generosity and hope it inspires others to step up and help.” Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president: “These organizations work tirelessly every day to support their communities, but they can’t do it alone. Duke Energy is proud to partner with the governor, and we encourage businesses, organizations and individuals across the state to join the fight against hunger.”
Bottom line:
Duke Energy has a long history of supporting hunger-relief efforts in South Carolina. Beginning next week, the company—along with the Duke Energy Foundation—will launch its annual month-long campaign focused on addressing food insecurity across the state. In its fifth year, the initiative will contribute more than $500,000 to over 60 food-assistance programs leading up to Thanksgiving, ending with surprise grant announcements on Giving Tuesday.

This effort goes beyond the company’s support for the One SC Fund. The campaign will spotlight key community partners that play vital roles in combating hunger, such as Harvest Hope Food Bank, Mill Village Farms, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, FoodShare South Carolina, AIM, and many others. Throughout the month, Duke Energy employees will also volunteer their time with various organizations.

Families struggling with food insecurity often face difficult choices about which household bills to pay—including electricity. That’s why it’s equally important to provide resources that help customers manage their energy costs during tough times.
