CNH Industrial debuts world’s 1st CNG powered tractor prototype

12/15/2022

CNH Industrial unveiled the next step in agricultural alternative power at its Tech Day event in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. One of our global agricultural brands, New Holland Agriculture, unveiled the T7 Methane Power LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) pre-production prototype tractor.

New Holland is the agricultural industry's alternative fuels leader, having developed the first commercialized Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tractor, the T6 Methane Power. The new T7 prototype strengthens the Brand's position and adds value for our customers. When compared to a CNG design, it more than doubles the autonomy.

This is a fourfold increase in fuel capacity over the T6 Methane Power CNG. It has the same power and torque as a diesel tractor while providing autonomy without the need for additional tanks. It's also quieter, with a significant reduction in drive-by noise levels, making it ideal for tasks near livestock or in cities.

CNH Industrial collaborated with Bennamann, a UK-based expert whose multi-patented approach converts fugitive methane to clean biofuel, resulting in an energy-independent and sustainable farm system. When the T7 prototype is used in this process, the overall carbon footprint of the operation can be 'better than zero.' Bennamann's system also provides farmers with new opportunities and revenue streams. These include producing fuel at a consistent cost, selling excess biomethane on the open market, producing 100% natural fertilizer, and converting excess methane into electricity for export or local use.

The new technology in the T7 Methane Power LNG has been tested on a variety of farms across a wide range of applications. The world's first LNG tractor will be serialised and commercialised following this premiere. A tractor that will help our customers become more sustainable, energy independent, and productive, in keeping with our mission of Breaking New Ground.
