04/27/2016

Securing the future, means strengthening the core of young population. Keeping this vision alive, Barclays continues to touch young generation to perform alchemy.

Barclays Train Young Citizens Through ‘Rebound’
Dailycsr.com – 27 April 2016 – According to Barclays, there are around “73.3 million1 young people” throughout the world sitting without any job. The situation poses a “significant threat” to our global economy at large. Statistics show a marginal higher “14%2 youth unemployment rate” throughout the United States in comparison to “5%3 unemployment rate of the general population”.

In order to address the said problem, whereby ensuring that the future generation possesses skill to “contribute to the workforce”, the group of Barclays entered into a “three year partnership with Good Shepherd Services” in the year of 2014. Together, the partners have created “the Rebound program” which is based out of Brooklyn in New York.

The programme Rebound delivers “financial literacy skills, employment workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and personal development plans” through basketball, making the latter an instrument of impetus. The age group aimed by the said initiative lies between seventeen to twenty four years old. The programme has two hubs operating from Red Hook and East New York which targets “communities where 1 in 4 young people are out of school or work”.

So far, Rebound has involved hundred twenty five people in its programme, while seventy six percent of them underwent “financial skills training”, while eighty eight percent took part in “life skills training”. Eventually, almost every nine out of ten have been employed or “accessed education” post the training programme.

The graduated who had participated in the Rebound programmes were honoured on the floor “Barclays Center before a Brooklyn Nets game” on the 13th of March 2016. Moreover, Barclays writes:
“The success of the Rebound participants and this program are vital to ensuring that we can all achieve our future ambitions in life and business. Visit our Citizenship section to learn about other employability programs we've implemented to address this issue and promote the growth of our global communities”.
