Besides sourcing responsibly and pioneering the broiler chicken improvement move, Aramark continues to be more responsible.

Dailycsr.com – 15 March 2017 – Aramark is one of the world leaders that deal in uniforms, food and “facilities management”, whereby on the 13th of March 2017, it made an announcement revealing “the latest step on its journey” as it seeks to “become an even more responsible company”.

As a result of which, the company wants to turn its focus towards taking care of “its diverse workforce” besides promoting the wellness and health of its consumers and making a stronger community by “protecting the environment”. Moreover, it is now stretching the area of its commitment, whereby it is treading the ways of “responsible sourcing and animal welfare” by pushing its hundred percent “cage-free egg commitment” throughout the world by the year of 2025, which also takes into consideration “liquid” and egg shells.

Aramark’s operations are conducted in nineteen countries, whereby its total annual purchase adds up to “over 300 million eggs”. The U.S. is the largest market for Aramark, wherein the company has been into the service of hundred percent “cage-free shell eggs” from the year of 2015. At present, it is in a transition period to “100 percent cage-free liquid eggs”, whereby the target year is 2020.

The “cage-free egg commitment” of Aramark aligns itself with the “animal welfare policy” that was established in the year of 2015. Following its commitment in the year of 2016, Aramark set off on its pioneering initiative of improving “the treatment of broiler chickens”.
The policies made and decisions taken at Aramark are reflection of insightful expert opinions coming from the “independent Sustainable Sourcing Advisory Panel” consisting of suppliers, specialists in the field of business, “academia and animal welfare organizations”. The Unites States’ Humane Society’s Vice President of Farm Animal Protection, Josh Balk, said:
“Aramark’s shift to entirely cage-free eggs for its supply chain globally is a significant advancement for the treatment of egg-laying hens. The company’s overall efforts to improve the lives of farm animals makes it a leader in the food industry.”

While, the head of Food Business at “Compassion in World Farming” U.S., Rachel Dreskin, added:
“Aramark’s announcement to take their cage-free commitment worldwide will impact the lives of almost a million hens each year and illustrates the company’s continued dedication to farm animal welfare. It also emphasizes that the tidal wave of change coming for laying hens is not limited by geographical borders.”

In a recent publication of “Animal Welfare Progress Report” of Aramark, the company highlights “ongoing advancement of responsible sourcing and animal welfare goals”. Here is a list, as mentioned by Ethical Performance:
Becoming a first in foodservice committed to the humane treatment of broiler chickens by calling on suppliers to address breed selection, space, enrichments and slaughtering practices by 2024. Transitioning 30 percent of its U.S. pork purchases to group-housed in 2017, while working with suppliers, industry and animal welfare organizations to increase supplies enabling 100 percent group-housed purchases by 2022. Incorporating responsible sourcing policies into supplier contracts that feature recognized, third-party certifications from the Global Animal Partnership (GAP), Certified Humane by Humane Farm Animal Care and others.

Aramark’s global supply chain and procurement’s senior vice-president, Scott Barnhart, stated:
“We are unwavering in our commitment to work with suppliers and animal welfare organizations to advance responsible sourcing practices across our global supply chain. We are pleased that Aramark’s cage-free egg learnings in the U.S. are being applied to address the remaining portion of our total egg purchases around the world.”

Moreover, the Ethical Performance informed:
“The Humane Society of the U.S. honored Aramark with the Henry Spira Humane Corporate Progress Award for its commitment to broiler chicken welfare, instituting an Animal Welfare Policy and addressing confinement conditions of farm animals.
