Dailycsr.com – 30 April 2020 – Given the fact that the world is facing the “largest public health crisis in recent history” along with keeping the “School Lunch Hero Day” which is celebrated on May 1, in mind, Aramark expressed its gesture of gratitude towards the nutritional professionals of schools in the country. Moreover, it made an announcement it is going to serve “one million meals a day to students” while it had already provided safe “20 million meals to students in hundreds of school districts across the country” even since the pandemic hit home.

In the wake of schools being forced to shut down, Aramark has stepped in to cover up for the normal operation’s disruption as many schools are not able to ensure the delivery of nutritious meals to its “most vulnerable student populations”. As a result, the employees of Aramark have joined the nutritional community for schools to carry out the work. In the words of the President of “Aramark’s K-12 Education division”, Barbara Flanagan:
“School nutrition professionals have been on the front lines navigating changing regulations to preserve community access to meals during this public health crisis. At Aramark, we are especially honored to salute these devoted heroes who are helping to ensure that children and families stay nourished during this unprecedented time for our country.”

Through “School Lunch Hero Day”, students, school staff, communities and parents get the opportunity to thank those involved in provided them with healthy meals. From 2013, the said day has been celebrated which was conceived by “The School Nutrition Association and Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the ‘Lunch Lady’ graphic novel series”. To show their appreciation students along with their families make “thank you cards and posters” decorate “vehicles and buses”, dresses up as their favourite superhero or share greetings and videos on social media with the hashtag “#HeroesWearHairnets”.

Aramark has partnered with “298 school districts” wherein it is serving nutritional food during the pandemic, whereby Dr. Kevin Rogers from the “Lewisville Independent School District Superintendent” said:
“We could not be more proud of the way our partners at Aramark have responded to this exceptionally challenging situation. In a very short period of time, they developed a system to distribute food to thousands of families, many of whom were experiencing food insecurity for the first time due to COVID-19. They displayed incredible care, compassion and professionalism, even in the midst of caring for their own families and facing their own worries”.

While, the Pawtucket School Department’s chief finance officer, Melissa Devine said:
“Aramark was extremely proactive in developing a plan to ensure that Pawtucket students would continue to receive breakfast and lunch during an unanticipated school closure. The Aramark team has worked, and continues to work diligently, moving about the eight different locations that the District is offering food five days per week, including preparation and distribution of food for weekends when not serving.”

And the Executive Director of Operations at Springfield Public School, Travis Shaw added:
“The Aramark team has bent over backwards to serve the students of Springfield Public Schools. The way we are feeding kids has drastically changed, but Aramark’s love and care for kids has only been enhanced through this unprecedented time. They have responded to every request with flexibility and a willingness to do whatever it takes.”
