American Airlines Honors WWII Veterans with D-Day 80th Anniversary Trip to Normandy

06/07/2024

To mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, American Airlines transported nearly 70 World War II veterans to Normandy, France. The journey began at American's headquarters in Dallas-Fort Worth with a kickoff dinner featuring a 1940s-era big band and the Victory Belles from the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. Veterans received a special heroes’ send-off from American Airlines team members before proceeding to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, where the celebrations continued.

The trip also included several Rosie the Riveters, symbolizing the American women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II, and six Medal of Honor recipients, the nation's highest recognition for bravery. Additionally, over 50 cadets and midshipmen from the United States' military service academies joined the veterans, providing musical accompaniment as a joint academy choir.
