Advancing Circular Plastic Packaging: Sustainable Solutions & Collaborative Initiatives
Collaboration across the value chain is essential for enhancing the circularity of vital plastic packaging. In a joint effort with ExxonMobil, SEE is embarking on its second project focused on circularity in food-grade plastics, aimed at diverting around 900 tons of plastic waste annually from landfill or incineration in Australia.

This initiative involves producing CRYOVAC® brand preformed food packaging trays using resins that utilize ExxonMobil’s advanced recycling technology and mass balance attribution. Both the resins and tray manufacturing process meet the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS standard, ensuring sustainability credentials. Moreover, these trays are designed to be curbside recyclable within Australia. This collaboration pioneers circularity in fresh red meat trays, addressing the challenge of achieving circularity for food-grade plastics with stringent hygiene and performance requirements for food protection and distribution.

BUBBLE WRAP® Brand Inflatable Packaging offers environmentally conscious solutions tailored for recycling. These inflatable packaging solutions comprise thin, lightweight films designed to uphold superior product protection while minimizing environmental impact. They inflate on demand, enabling more efficient shipping compared to pre-inflated alternatives. Additionally, the materials can be reused multiple times, significantly reducing the volume of packaging material entering the waste stream.

The BUBBLE WRAP® brand inflatable packaging portfolio features:
  • BUBBLE WRAP® brand Fill-Air slim air pillows: These ultra-thin air pillows, with a thickness of 10 microns, minimize material usage and save space by shipping and storing flat, deflating to only 0.7% of their original volume.
  • BUBBLE WRAP® brand recycled content inflatable air pillows: Incorporating 50% recycled content, including 30% post-consumer recycled content, this solution reduces reliance on virgin materials, thus lowering the package's carbon footprint without compromising performance.
  • BUBBLE WRAP® brand recycled content films: These films contain a minimum of 30% recycled content sourced from recovered waste, delivering the same performance as BUBBLE WRAP® brand IB film while reducing the use of virgin materials and greenhouse gas emissions. This option aids customers in complying with various countries' plastic tax regulations.

The recyclability of the final package depends on local recycling facilities' scope and availability, with the films used in these solutions categorized as store drop-off recyclable, recyclable, or designed for recycling.
