Adidas To Introduce New Genre Of Eco-Friendly Sports Goods That Will Never Age

10/29/2015

Adidas’ innovative research project, Sport Infinity, will allow re-cycling of sports goods without any wastage.

Dailycsr.com – 29 October 2015 – In an announcement Adidas launched its project “Sport Infinity”, whereby the company aims to develop a “new breed of sporting goods” clubbed with cultivating a new sports culture altogether wherein the “sporting goods” will never hit the dustbins.

A “3-D super material” involved in this project will enable the “football creators” to continuously “reimagine and recycle their dream products”. Each “gram of sportswear” be it of a budding amateur or that of Leo Messi, will be “broken down” to their base material and can be remoulded easily, as the process involved in the fabrication is a “waste-free” and “adhesive-free” whereby the consumer will have more scope than ever of personalising their products.

The four times winner of FIFA Ballon D’Or, Loe Messi remarked:
“I am proud that adidas is working to make sure that all of their boots, including mine, are being made in a way that protects the environment. For me, this is the future of football”.

Adidas has initiated this “Sport Infinity” research project which is being funded by the “European Commission” whereby the latter gathers experts from various industrial and academic backgrounds. Moreover, it also puts together “broken-down sports products” that has excess “materials” even if they were made in other industries. Likewise, the company of Adidas dreams of a future wherein the football boots could be made of anything possible, starting from “carbon used in aircraft manufacturing to fibres of the boots that scored during the World Cup”.

Thanks to the “new super material”, every fan of sports can awaken the latent designer in them. A sports boot wearer can fancy changing his boot design “as often as” he wants to “without worrying about waste”. Be it an upcoming trend or a basic requirement, the future football fans will never have the needs of wearing their old boots. Adidas’ vice president of Technology Innovation section, Gerd Manz stated:
“This is a game-changing development for football fans. Over the next three years, Sport Infinity aims to end the days of throwing away football boots. Instead, every pair of boots is not just recycled but reimagined to the consumer’s most personal specifications”.

While the Adidas Group’s Executive Board Member for Global Operations, Glenn Bennett said:
“Following the announcement of SPEEDFACTORY and our partnership with Parley for the Oceans, Sport Infinity is the next step in our commitment to innovation and sustainability. This project will close the sustainability loop, creating a high-performance product that can always be recycled”.

Adidas in collaboration with the “European Commission” began this project in the month of June 2015, whereby the project also included nine other experts from the industry leader:
“BASF SE;KISKA GmbH;FILL Gesellschaft m.b.H.;Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU); OECHSLER AG; University of Leeds, Centre for Technical Textiles (CTT); Association CETI (Centre Européen des Textiles Innovants); Hypercliq E.E.; SportsMethod Ltd”.
