2026 Top 100 Corporate Citizens Ranking Revealed

09/16/2026

3BL has released its 2026 edition of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens ranking, an annual assessment of the 1,000 largest publicly traded companies in the United States. The ranking examines companies through their publicly disclosed non-financial information, with a focus on their effects on employees, communities, and the environment around the world.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company took the top position in the 2026 ranking. Owens Corning, Trane Technologies, HP Inc., and Graphic Packaging Holding Company rounded out the top five.

The 100 Best Corporate Citizens ranking uses a methodology that is regularly updated in collaboration with ISS STOXX and informed by feedback from a broad range of stakeholders. The recognition highlights companies demonstrating strong performance in areas such as community impact, environmental responsibility, and corporate governance. Since 2020, fewer than one in five companies in the Russell 1000 have been included among the 100 Best Corporate Citizens.

For the 2026 assessment, Russell 1000 companies were measured against 221 individual factors spanning seven impact pillars. These areas include climate change, employees, the environment, governance, human rights, and stakeholders and society.

The methodology was also revised this year. Several risk-disclosure measures were removed following their retirement in ISS STOXX's annual E&S QualityScore updates. At the same time, greater emphasis was placed on factors within the environment and human rights categories. These changes place additional focus on how companies identify, report, and address risks associated with those areas.

A key distinction of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens ranking is that it is based entirely on information available to the public. Sources include company websites, sustainability and corporate responsibility reports, SEC filings, and data from established third-party organizations such as the U.N. Global Compact and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Companies do not need to complete a survey or submit information to participate, and there is no fee for consideration. To improve data accuracy, companies can review and verify the information collected about them through an online verification platform operated by 3BL's data partner, ISS-Corporate, at no cost.

The full rankings and supporting data are available at 3BL100Best.com. The platform also allows users to review changes in rankings over time and compare category-level performance.
