MetaOptics Ltd has announced a significant step forward, securing design and evaluation orders for its metalens technologies and modules from leading global clients.

In its annual report for the financial year ending 31 December 2025, the company highlighted a shift among customers—from early-stage interest in metalens technology to active testing, development, and collaboration. Continued engagement with key clients, including technical discussions and non-binding memorandums of understanding, has enabled the company to reach several important milestones across industries such as consumer electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, and engineering technology.

After completing a comprehensive qualification process, the company has been approved as a direct supplier to a major South Korean consumer electronics firm. It has also finalized the metalens design optimization phase, with the client currently assessing system specifications. MetaOptics’ engineering team is working closely with the customer on next steps, including involvement in the product launch cycle.

Additionally, the company has submitted a proposal for prototyping and production to a prominent European engineering and technology firm, aimed at supporting next-generation particle sensing solutions powered by metalenses. These customized metalenses, measuring under 1mm in diameter, are designed to be manufactured using a 12-inch DUV immersion photolithography process, leveraging semiconductor fabrication expertise.

Following discussions with a European semiconductor foundry, MetaOptics has showcased the capabilities of its automated metalens testing system—particularly its sorting and characterization features—as part of a potential deployment at the client’s facility. This opportunity aligns with the company’s goal of contributing to the development of end-to-end metalens manufacturing capabilities in Europe through its integrated equipment segment, which includes technologies such as direct laser writers, automated testers, and module assembly systems.

The company has also delivered a sample of its monochrome wide-angle IoT infrared metalens camera development kit to a South Korean vehicle intelligence sensing firm and is supporting the client through the evaluation phase.

Progress is also being made at the company’s microfabrication platform in Taiwan. After successfully installing its direct laser writer and automated testing systems, an established co-packaged optics supplier to a major foundry has requested metalens samples. MetaOptics is collaborating with its local partner to fulfill this demand. At the same time, it is exploring the deployment of similar systems at another microfabrication facility in a key Asian hub by the end of 2026, aiming to strengthen regional semiconductor supply chains and meet increasing customer demand.

Executive Chairman Thng Chong Kim noted that, following strong shareholder backing at the annual and extraordinary meetings held on 10 April 2026—including support for the proposed Nasdaq dual listing—and continued customer momentum, the company is well-positioned to execute its growth strategy. This includes accelerating the commercialization of its metalens technologies, expanding its global presence, and deepening its footprint in high-growth markets.

By Order of the Board

Thng Chong Kim
Executive Chairman
22 April 2026

Photonics: Transforming the Future of Information Technology
Photonics is reshaping how we handle data—transmitting, processing, and sensing information with unprecedented speed and efficiency. It’s the driving force behind transformative advances, from lightning-fast internet connections to emerging technologies like quantum computing and self-driving cars.

But what exactly is photonics, and why is it becoming so crucial in today’s technological landscape?

Understanding Photonics
At its core, photonics involves the science and technology of harnessing light (photons) to perform tasks traditionally managed by electronics. Unlike electronics, which depend on electrical currents to operate, photonics uses light waves—offering significantly higher data transfer speeds, broader bandwidth, and reduced power consumption.

In fact, photonics already plays a role in many everyday applications:

High-speed fiber-optic internet that connects homes and businesses

LiDAR systems in autonomous vehicles that help map and detect surroundings

Optical sensors used in early-stage medical diagnostics

Photonic interconnects in data centers that are replacing copper wiring to handle increasing data loads

Why Photonics Is on the Rise
As we near the physical and technical limits of conventional electronic systems (as described by Moore’s Law), photonics provides a powerful alternative. Key advantages include:

Ultra-Fast Speeds: Light travels faster than electricity, enabling quicker data movement

Greater Data Capacity: Optical systems can transmit significantly more information

Lower Power Usage: Photonics is more energy-efficient and generates less heat

Compact Design: Integrated photonics allows complex optical operations to be embedded on microchips

Thanks to these strengths, photonics is being adopted in breakthrough areas like 6G wireless, artificial intelligence hardware, quantum systems, and next-gen healthcare technologies.

The Complexity of Photonic Design
Despite its potential, designing photonic systems is far from simple. Unlike traditional electronics, which deal with currents and voltages, photonics involves the behavior of light waves. This introduces unique design challenges involving the simulation of elements like waveguides, modulators, resonators, and detectors. Additionally, many photonic systems must be closely integrated with electronics, further complicating the design process.

Standard electronic design tools fall short when it comes to modeling these optical phenomena. Photonic development demands specialized software capable of accurately simulating light behavior, material interactions, and electromagnetic properties at very small scales.

Introducing Keysight Photonic Designer
Keysight Photonic Designer is a state-of-the-art design solution created specifically for engineers working on photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Whether you're building a silicon-based optical transceiver, a medical diagnostic sensor, or a chip for quantum communication, this tool helps you:

Precisely simulate and model photonic devices and circuits

Seamlessly co-design electronic and optical components in one platform

Fine-tune performance with advanced modeling and design tools

Validate your layouts using foundry-compatible PDKs to ensure manufacturability

Speed up your development process from initial design to final fabrication

By integrating photonics and electronics within a unified workflow, this platform reduces complexity and shortens the innovation cycle.

Why It Matters Today
Photonics is no longer an emerging field—it’s actively driving innovation across multiple industries. As the need for faster, more efficient data systems continues to grow, companies with the ability to design and validate photonic systems will be at the forefront of the next wave of technological advancement.

With Keysight Photonic Designer, engineers gain the tools they need to create cutting-edge solutions—quickly, accurately, and at scale—within the comprehensive Advanced Design System (ADS) platform.

Click here to view Keysight Photonic Design Automation Solutions.
