MetaOptics Ltd has announced a significant step forward, securing design and evaluation orders for its metalens technologies and modules from leading global clients.

In its annual report for the financial year ending 31 December 2025, the company highlighted a shift among customers—from early-stage interest in metalens technology to active testing, development, and collaboration. Continued engagement with key clients, including technical discussions and non-binding memorandums of understanding, has enabled the company to reach several important milestones across industries such as consumer electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, and engineering technology.

After completing a comprehensive qualification process, the company has been approved as a direct supplier to a major South Korean consumer electronics firm. It has also finalized the metalens design optimization phase, with the client currently assessing system specifications. MetaOptics’ engineering team is working closely with the customer on next steps, including involvement in the product launch cycle.

Additionally, the company has submitted a proposal for prototyping and production to a prominent European engineering and technology firm, aimed at supporting next-generation particle sensing solutions powered by metalenses. These customized metalenses, measuring under 1mm in diameter, are designed to be manufactured using a 12-inch DUV immersion photolithography process, leveraging semiconductor fabrication expertise.

Following discussions with a European semiconductor foundry, MetaOptics has showcased the capabilities of its automated metalens testing system—particularly its sorting and characterization features—as part of a potential deployment at the client’s facility. This opportunity aligns with the company’s goal of contributing to the development of end-to-end metalens manufacturing capabilities in Europe through its integrated equipment segment, which includes technologies such as direct laser writers, automated testers, and module assembly systems.

The company has also delivered a sample of its monochrome wide-angle IoT infrared metalens camera development kit to a South Korean vehicle intelligence sensing firm and is supporting the client through the evaluation phase.

Progress is also being made at the company’s microfabrication platform in Taiwan. After successfully installing its direct laser writer and automated testing systems, an established co-packaged optics supplier to a major foundry has requested metalens samples. MetaOptics is collaborating with its local partner to fulfill this demand. At the same time, it is exploring the deployment of similar systems at another microfabrication facility in a key Asian hub by the end of 2026, aiming to strengthen regional semiconductor supply chains and meet increasing customer demand.

Executive Chairman Thng Chong Kim noted that, following strong shareholder backing at the annual and extraordinary meetings held on 10 April 2026—including support for the proposed Nasdaq dual listing—and continued customer momentum, the company is well-positioned to execute its growth strategy. This includes accelerating the commercialization of its metalens technologies, expanding its global presence, and deepening its footprint in high-growth markets.

By Order of the Board

Thng Chong Kim
Executive Chairman
22 April 2026

Betolar Plc has developed an innovative solution aimed at safeguarding essential infrastructure, including electrical substations. This initiative responds to the increasingly unstable security landscape affecting critical systems in Finland and across the globe.

Growing Need for Proactive Protection

Recent incidents in Finland and other parts of Europe have exposed the susceptibility of power grids and key infrastructure. Damage to electrical substations—especially to main transformers—can lead to extensive and prolonged disruptions in everyday operations. Replacing these transformers can take over a year due to extended lead times and high demand, resulting in substantial financial consequences.

A Cost-Effective Preventive Approach

Betolar’s solution focuses on preventing damage before it occurs, thereby ensuring continuity of supply. It offers a more economical option compared to the high costs associated with repairs, replacements, or recovery from intentional or accidental damage to critical components like transformers.

Key Features of the Solution

Strong physical barriers to deter intrusion, vandalism, and attacks

Protection against drone-related threats

Modular and scalable design for quick deployment across multiple locations

Environmentally friendly construction using locally sourced materials

By utilizing locally available resources, the solution supports efficient implementation and sustainability. It is also designed to be repairable and restorable even in emergency or extreme conditions. The innovation leverages Betolar’s expertise in materials technology, ensuring durability against varying levels of explosive force.

Progress Toward Commercial Deployment

Betolar has moved this solution into the commercialization stage and is currently in discussions with potential clients and partners for its rollout. The company aims to play a key role in both the design and delivery of the system, working closely with its network of collaborators.

Tuija Kalpala, President and CEO of Betolar Plc, stated: “Drone-related damage can be prevented with the right measures in place. As the security landscape evolves, there is a growing need for forward-looking, scalable protection strategies. At Betolar, we are using our materials expertise to enhance resilience in society. Protecting electrical substations is a practical and efficient way to strengthen supply security quickly and affordably.”

Betolar has also submitted a patent application to protect this innovation.

Contact Information

For further details:
Tuija Kalpala
President & CEO, Betolar Plc
Tel: +358 50 567 6608
Email: tuija.kalpala@betolar.com
