Eaton, a leader in intelligent power management, is showcasing its advanced solutions to ensure reliable home power supply while minimizing the need for extensive upgrades to utility and residential energy systems.

The company’s AbleEdge home energy management platform serves as the core technology enabling the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) to power homes effectively. Collaborating with top automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), energy storage providers, and solar companies, Eaton is pioneering cost-efficient, interoperable solutions that support vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities, both now and in the future.

On average, U.S. households face approximately 5.5 hours of power outages annually. V2H technology offers a solution by leveraging electric vehicle (EV) batteries to provide backup power for 10 to 20 hours, depending on factors like season, battery capacity, and home size. With decades of expertise in managing power for homes, vehicles, and grids, Eaton is well-positioned to drive the adoption of V2H and V2G-ready solutions. The company has already demonstrated its capability to support V2G initiatives alongside utilities and automotive OEMs.

“EV batteries offer a transformative opportunity to enhance home energy systems, keeping the lights on and reducing energy expenses,” said Paul Ryan, Eaton’s General Manager of Connected Solutions and EV Charging. “Our groundbreaking technology and industry partnerships empower homeowners to power their homes in innovative ways, reducing infrastructure costs while ensuring compatibility with onsite energy resources.”

Eaton’s "Home as a Grid" strategy simplifies the energy transition with a focus on interoperability and cybersecurity. In North America, the AbleEdge system integrates EV batteries, solar panels, and energy storage into residential electrical setups, ensuring power availability during outages and peak demand. This approach eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming panel and service upgrades, delivering significant savings. Eaton’s collaboration with Treehouse further streamlines installations by offering accurate pricing and efficient services from licensed electricians.

Additionally, Eaton is advancing power distribution and protection within EVs by developing cutting-edge technologies that optimize charging processes. The company recently partnered with Munich Electrification to introduce a battery configuration switch (BCS), enhancing charging flexibility, reducing equipment needs, and improving performance.

Eaton’s innovations in sustainable, resilient, and cost-effective power solutions will be on display at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Experts will also participate in panel discussions, including:

Sankaran Subramaniam, Ph.D., discussing “AI at the Edge: Transforming Industries and the Workplace” on January 7 at 2 p.m.

Mark Kelly, addressing “The Energy Infrastructure of the Future” on January 9 at 9 a.m.

John Krzeszewski, participating in “Automotive Cybersecurity Revs Up” on January 9 at 9 a.m.

Visit Eaton at booth 10341 in the North Hall to explore these solutions firsthand.
Eaton is also showcasing its V2H capabilities at its Pittsburgh Experience Center, where visitors can explore real-world applications of its comprehensive electrical solutions. These centers provide hands-on learning opportunities for industry professionals, customers, and students, demonstrating innovative technologies in action.

With a history dating back to 1911 and over a century on the New York Stock Exchange, Eaton reported revenues of $23.2 billion in 2023 and serves customers in more than 160 countries. The company remains committed to sustainable practices, supporting the global shift toward renewable energy, and addressing critical power management challenges to create a better future for all.
