Henkel, a prominent producer of popular consumer and industrial brands such as Dial soap, Schwarzkopf hair care, all free clear laundry detergent, and Loctite, Technomelt, and Bonderite adhesives, sealants, and coatings, has earned a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s (HRCF) 2025 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This index is the leading benchmark for evaluating corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.

Henkel is one of 765 companies to receive the HRCF’s Equality 100 Award, recognizing them as leaders in LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion. The 2025 CEI includes over 1,400 companies, the largest number since its inception in 2002. Companies are rated based on key criteria such as non-discrimination policies, equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ employees and their families, fostering an inclusive culture, and corporate social responsibility efforts.

“We are honored to be recognized with the HRCF’s Equality 100 Award, which reflects our ongoing commitment to inclusion and belonging in the workplace, local communities, and with all our partners, customers, and consumers,” said Pernille Lind Olsen, President of Henkel North America.

“Henkel has a longstanding tradition of creating a culture of belonging for all employees, including those in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. Our purpose as pioneers, dedicated to the well-being of future generations, motivates us to do what is right for our colleagues and our business.”

Henkel’s recognition stems from its proactive efforts to create a welcoming workplace environment and implement inclusive benefits and programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of its North American employees. For instance, in 2023, Henkel enhanced its parental leave policy, offering 12 weeks of fully paid time off for all U.S. employees welcoming a child, regardless of gender or family structure.

Additionally, Henkel supports a robust network of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) with over 20 chapters and more than 2,400 employees, helping to foster a supportive community, amplify diverse perspectives, and create growth opportunities for both employees and the business.

“For decades, businesses have turned to the CEI to provide transparency and level the playing field, ensuring that LGBTQ+ individuals and their families benefit from fair, respectful, and supportive workplaces,” said RaShawn “Shawnie” Hawkins, SHRM-CP, Senior Director of Workplace Equality at HRCF.

“As corporate America’s approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion continues to evolve, the year-over-year growth in CEI participation highlights a business community that understands the value and responsibility of upholding equity and inclusion. The CEI’s work supports businesses in expanding their consumer base and attracting top talent by fostering an inclusive environment for the LGBTQ+ community.”

The results of the 2025 CEI underscore how companies are advancing LGBTQ+ friendly workplace policies and emphasize the importance of reaffirming commitments to equity in the workplace. Notably, 98 percent of CEI-rated companies now have non-discrimination protections specific to gender identity, benefiting over 22 million U.S. workers.

Click here:blank to read the full report.

Introducing Eric Spaner: Advocating for Veterans and Building Inclusive Communities
Eric Spaner, a former U.S. Army service member, is dedicated to cultivating community and inclusivity at Henkel and beyond. As a mentor and leader, Eric actively supports fellow veterans, fosters meaningful connections, and raises awareness about the unique challenges they face.

At Henkel North America, the shared purpose of being "pioneers at heart for the good of generations" drives innovation and collaboration. This vision thrives on the diverse experiences, talents, and perspectives of its employees and partners, who work together to make a meaningful impact on the world. Through the series "Pioneers for Good," Henkel highlights individuals like Eric who embody this mission.

A Journey from Service to Civility
After five years in the U.S. Army, Eric faced the complex task of transitioning into civilian life—a challenge familiar to many veterans. As he prepared to welcome his first child, finding a stable career became a priority. With perseverance and the support of his community, Eric successfully transitioned his military skills into a role he’s passionate about.

In March 2022, Eric joined Henkel as a Senior Project Manager for Adhesive Technologies North America. Beyond his professional role, he is committed to advocating for veterans as the President of Henkel’s Military Employee Resource Group (ERG) and through various community initiatives.

Creating Impact Through “Little Moments”
Eric cherishes the “little moments” that foster connection and belonging. Whether it’s introducing new members to the Military ERG, sharing military traditions, or leveraging advocacy groups to support those in need, Eric’s efforts create ripple effects of positivity.

One standout moment was a collaboration with Foster Grandparents, a program supporting youth in underprivileged communities. Spearheaded by Henkel’s Military ERG and led by Dana Kunz, the initiative provided over 50 care packages filled with Henkel’s personal care products and a new washer and dryer for Ms. Flo, a foster grandparent who had lost her home to a fire. Reflecting on the experience, Eric recalls Ms. Flo’s unshakable positivity: “Her spirit was incredible, and it was a deeply emotional moment for all involved.”

Eric continues to lead impactful projects across Henkel’s ERGs. Recently, the Military ERG partnered with the Awareness of Visible and Invisible Disabilities (AVID) ERG for an event aimed at destigmatizing the mental and physical challenges veterans face. Eric views these efforts as part of a broader mission to transform obstacles into opportunities.

Mentorship and Giving Back
Community organizations played a pivotal role in Eric’s own transition from military to civilian life. Among them, Hire Heroes USA proved instrumental in helping him navigate employment challenges, particularly after losing an opportunity due to color blindness. With their guidance, Eric found a fulfilling career path and now serves as a mentor for Hire Heroes, guiding veterans through their own transitions.

Eric believes that veterans' journeys require support beyond just finding employment. He frequently shares advice he received from a Navy veteran: “Sometimes, you need to step back to reflect on how to move forward.” This perspective has become a cornerstone of his mentorship philosophy, helping veterans approach their paths with resilience and clarity.

Building Bridges and Recognizing Contributions
For Eric, fostering a community of understanding and appreciation for veterans is vital. He emphasizes the importance of valuing veterans’ skills and recognizing their contributions year-round, not just on Veteran’s Day. By listening and understanding their unique experiences, organizations and individuals can play a key role in easing the transition from military to civilian life.

As a "pioneer at heart for the good of generations," Eric strives to bridge gaps between cultures and backgrounds, working toward a more inclusive future. His journey serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, mentorship, and community in creating meaningful change.

At Henkel North America, our shared mission unites us: to be pioneers for the benefit of future generations. This pioneering spirit embodies the varied backgrounds, experiences, and talents of our employees and partners, who are committed to making a difference in the world. Together, we tackle challenges, seek solutions, and explore new perspectives.

Their efforts enable us to offer products, services, and innovations that enhance and improve daily life. We invite you to learn more about our pioneers in the “Pioneers for Good” series.

Introducing Cassie
Cassie Ross serves as a Senior Customer Marketing Manager for Henkel Consumer Brands, but her most significant role is as a mother to a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Each day, she ensures her son feels happy, healthy, and loved while advocating for disability awareness and inclusion in every aspect of her life, including her professional environment.

Cassie’s personal journey informs her approach to her work and advocacy.
"For those living with disabilities, it’s an ongoing conversation. Wherever possible, I strive to raise awareness about the importance of inclusion for everyone."

Navigating the Unknown with Compassion
While Cassie has always expected challenges, nothing could fully prepare her for life-altering moments. For her, that moment came when her son, then four years old, was diagnosed with nonspeaking autism. Cassie quickly recognized this as her call to advocacy.

"My husband and I felt utterly lost,” she recalls of the years leading up to her son’s diagnosis. “I struggled for almost two years, searching for any information that could help him communicate and deciding how our family would navigate his diagnosis during the pandemic."

Cassie enrolled her son in the Sunshine School & Development Center, which provides various services for children with disabilities. She believed it was the right environment for her son to thrive, not realizing it would also become a nurturing space for her advocacy efforts, inspiring her to push for disability awareness and inclusion in her workplace.

Charting a Path of Support for Families
Currently, Cassie is a Board Member at Sunshine School & Development Center. "I’ve made it my personal mission to ensure that no other family I encounter feels as lost as we did during those early years." With support from Henkel, she has advanced her mission through two grants from the Make An Impact on Tomorrow (MIT) initiative, which have funded playground equipment for the school.

In addition, Cassie serves as Vice President and Board Member of Autism Involves Me (AIM), a local organization dedicated to empowering individuals with autism and their families. In this capacity, she leverages her business expertise to help the organization build long-term sustainability.

Her work with AIM and Sunshine School & Development Center allows Cassie to connect with others impacted by disabilities. At AIM’s annual AIM Fest in September, she recognized a mother experiencing similar struggles to her own family’s.

"I embraced her, and we both began to cry. It reassured me, ‘This is why I’m here.’”

Transforming a Challenge into a Triumph
Cassie’s experiences as a mother to a child with autism have fueled her dedication to fostering disability awareness and inclusion in the workplace. She collaborated with colleagues Angie Parker and Patricia Tucker to establish an employee resource group (ERG) focused on this cause.

The Awareness of Visible and Invisible Disabilities (AVID) ERG aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment for employees with disabilities and those caring for family members with disabilities. Cassie values the collaborative spirit and the opportunity to connect with Henkel colleagues from different departments who share similar goals.

"It’s amazing to unite people from various parts of the company with common objectives. The AVID ERG has created a network of Henkel employees worldwide who work together to promote disability awareness and inclusion in the workplace, community, and product design."

Cassie appreciates the strong support from AVID’s executive sponsor, Robert McNamee. “He actively participates in every call and is genuinely involved in our work. Our entire executive leadership team is committed – they’re right there with us.”

Promoting an Accommodating and Respectful Workplace
Whether at home, in the office, or in the community, Cassie embodies empathy, compassion, and understanding. She aims to cultivate a more inclusive workplace culture for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, benefiting today’s workforce and future generations.

"I want my son to enter a workforce with career paths for people with disabilities and accessible environments where they can thrive." Cassie takes pride in working for an organization that is progressing in this area; Henkel was recently recognized as a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion by Disability: IN and The American Association of People with Disabilities.

Ultimately, Cassie’s message about being a pioneer for the good of future generations is straightforward:

"Practice kindness. Everyone is facing their own struggles. Take the time to understand your coworkers and how you can support them."
