In late July, Marina Bay Sands announced a three-year commitment of more than $1.1 million to the Mandai Wildlife Centre, Singapore’s newest facility dedicated to rehabilitating rescued native wildlife.

The contribution represents one of the resort’s most significant investments in biodiversity conservation to date. It underscores Marina Bay Sands’ ongoing focus on safeguarding wildlife, enhancing ecosystem resilience and advancing its wider sustainability objectives.

Managed by Mandai Nature, the nonprofit conservation arm of Mandai Wildlife Group, the facility has been specifically designed to provide better care and rehabilitation outcomes for Singapore’s rescued native animals. It also serves as a platform for research and the development of expertise in wildlife medicine, veterinary care and conservation.

Over the three-year partnership, Marina Bay Sands and Mandai Nature will also take conservation education beyond the rehabilitation facility. Together, they plan to create customized experiences and educational opportunities for international visitors and community partners, helping participants better understand wildlife conservation and the need to protect biodiversity within urban environments.

“We are delighted to support partners such as Mandai Nature in protecting Singapore’s native biodiversity,” said Meridith Beaujean, assistant vice president of sustainability and ESG at Marina Bay Sands. She noted that as a major hospitality destination, the resort relies on healthy ecosystems and rich biodiversity to create environments that people value and enjoy. She added that supporting the center reflects the company’s view that the long-term success of destinations and wildlife conservation are interconnected, while also recognizing the hospitality industry’s responsibility to make a meaningful contribution to both.

The contribution to the Mandai Wildlife Centre is the latest in a series of collaborations developed by Sands and its regional operations to promote sustainability, conservation and environmental education. These partnerships are supported by the Sands ECO360 global sustainability team, which works on issues including emissions reduction, responsible water management, waste minimization, sustainable materials and resource use, and biodiversity conservation.

Expanding Sustainability Through Cross-Disciplinary Initiatives
Earlier in the summer, Marina Bay Sands announced a two-year collaboration with the SG Eco Fund aimed at increasing public awareness and encouraging community participation in environmental sustainability and climate resilience initiatives in Singapore.

The partnership began on June 11 with a special screening of trailers from the Sustainable Futures Film Festival at ArtScience Museum. The festival, which runs through Aug. 31, features films examining climate change and biodiversity conservation.

The film program supports Singapore’s Year of Climate Adaptation, an initiative focused on increasing awareness of climate-related impacts while bringing together perspectives from art, science and sustainability.

The launch event also provided complimentary exhibition booths for SG Eco Fund recipients Witteveen+Bos, Pasarfish and PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency. The organizations presented projects designed to strengthen Singapore’s climate resilience, including initiatives involving food security as well as flood and coastal protection.

Established in 2020 and administered by Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, the $39 million SG Eco Fund provides financial support for community-led projects that promote environmental sustainability.

The Marina Bay Sands-SG Eco Fund partnership will also introduce interactive exhibitions at ArtScience Museum focused on biodiversity and sustainability. The resort plans to work with SG Eco Fund recipients to incorporate exhibition booths, artistic installations, educational tours and practical sustainability workshops designed for students and members of the public.

Advancing Conservation Through Responsible Hospitality
Marina Bay Sands has maintained a partnership with World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore since 2015. The relationship initially concentrated on responsible seafood procurement but has since expanded into a broader effort to encourage more sustainable practices across the resort’s supply chain.

The collaboration includes traceability assessments as well as improvement initiatives involving aquaculture and fisheries across the region.

Marina Bay Sands is currently working with the nonprofit organization to examine how the hospitality sector is connected to deforestation risks within supply chains. As part of the effort, the resort conducted a detailed assessment of deforestation and land-conversion risks across its supply chain, concentrating on commodities considered particularly exposed to these risks, including palm oil, cocoa, coffee, beef, soy, paper and timber.

The assessment examined procurement information and involved discussions with suppliers about their sourcing methods, certifications and traceability systems. This work established a baseline of potential risks and opportunities. Drawing on international frameworks and established best practices, the initiative aims to improve supply-chain transparency, increase understanding of deforestation-related risks and encourage suppliers to identify ways to reduce deforestation and move toward sourcing that avoids harmful land conversion.

Marina Bay Sands also began collaborating last year with conservation organization Hutan on a program designed to restore wildlife corridors within palm oil plantation landscapes in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Hutan’s reforestation efforts are intended to restore habitats used by endangered wildlife.

As part of the initiative, Marina Bay Sands funded the work of four Indigenous Orang Sungei women for one year, covering their salaries, benefits and operational expenses as members of Hutan’s reforestation team. The model supports continued ecological restoration while creating sustainable employment opportunities for women and reflects the integrated resort’s broader regenerative approach to hospitality.

The Drop By Drop Project
One of Sands’ longest-running sustainability collaborations is its partnership with The WASH Foundation through The Drop By Drop Project. The initiative provides grants for innovative water-management and conservation programs in Macao and Singapore, with a focus on improving water resilience, restoring ecosystems, developing new water-related solutions and involving local communities.

In Macao, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) is currently receiving support through the program. Its funding is being used for the Sponge City Macao project, which investigates how mangrove restoration can be combined with sponge-city concepts to establish a more sustainable approach to urban water management.

The project combines scientific research with community participation and seeks to improve flood preparedness, increase the retention of stormwater and promote long-term ecological stability within Macao’s urban environment.

The Drop By Drop Project is also supporting two initiatives in the broader Singapore region.
Reef Check Malaysia has received funding for its Mabul Clean Water Initiative. The project provides sustainable and secure water supplies through rainwater-harvesting systems for 100 low-income households on Mabul Island in Sabah. One of its key objectives is to reduce the community’s reliance on expensive imported water.

The project is also funding The International SeaKeepers Society’s Orang Seletar Sungai Temon Project. The initiative supports the Indigenous Orang Seletar community as it works to restore a storm-damaged community hall and conduct water-quality monitoring in response to declining mussel yields.

Together, these activities aim to preserve the community’s cultural heritage, strengthen local environmental stewardship and improve long-term economic resilience.

Supporting Sustainable Seafood Practices
Sands China has been a member of the Hong Kong Sustainable Seafood Coalition (HKSSC), an organization working to expand the sustainable seafood market across Hong Kong, Macao and the wider region through responsible sourcing.

Most recently, Sands China contributed to HKSSC’s World Oceans Day outreach on June 8 by introducing specially selected sustainable seafood dishes at four Sands China restaurants. Marina Bay Sands also participated in the coalition’s World Oceans Day awareness initiative at RISE, its signature buffet restaurant.

“We’ve aligned with these leading environmental organizations because we are committed to advancing sustainability in all aspects of our business and in our regions,” said Katarina Tesarova, senior vice president and chief sustainability officer. She explained that the partnerships enable Sands to strengthen its environmental stewardship while helping partner organizations broaden their reach and further their conservation missions.

According to Tesarova, the relationships have created mutual benefits, with the shared objective of developing more effective approaches to protecting ecosystems and conserving natural resources across the regions where Sands operates.

Lenovo has been recognized for its environmental leadership, earning top marks for climate change (A) and water security (A-) from the global environmental non-profit CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project). Being featured on CDP’s prestigious Corporate A List underscores Lenovo’s strong commitment to environmental transparency and detailed reporting.

CDP is an independent, non-profit organization that enables companies and institutions to publicly disclose their environmental impacts. In 2024, more than 22,700 companies participated in CDP's assessment of climate and water-related practices.

The scoring process in 2024 became notably stricter, aligning more closely with evolving ESG standards and raising expectations for environmental performance. Lenovo’s A List designation reflects the robustness of its sustainability initiatives, including transparent carbon emissions reporting and effective water resource management.

Beyond this achievement, Lenovo also earned a Platinum Medal from EcoVadis and was awarded AAA status by MSCI ESG Ratings, further validating its sustainability performance.
The company is on course to meet its short-term emissions reduction goals, which are aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative, as part of its broader ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Collaboration is central to Lenovo’s strategy—particularly through engaging its global supply chain and assisting suppliers in meeting their own environmental targets.

In September 2023, Lenovo reinforced its commitment to sustainability by joining the UN Global Compact Forward Faster initiative, pledging to speed up private sector contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals, with a strong emphasis on climate action and water sustainability.

Click here to know more about CDP, its scoring, and its methodology.
