The Global Electronics Council® (GEC), an independent international nonprofit dedicated to expanding the market for sustainable electronic products and technologies, has announced that it is inviting qualified professionals to submit expressions of interest for positions on its Board of Directors.

The organization is looking for committed leaders who can contribute a broad range of expertise, viewpoints, and independent perspectives to GEC’s governance and future strategy. Joining the GEC Board provides an opportunity for experienced professionals to play a strategic role in an organization focused on accelerating the adoption of more sustainable electronics. The GEC Board plays an important role in directing the organization’s efforts across areas including sustainability, technology, procurement, criteria development, and market growth. Directors are expected to support GEC’s mission while making independent decisions in the organization’s best interests. The Board will also help strengthen GEC’s ongoing influence through EPEAT®, its global Type I ecolabel, which helps institutional buyers reduce environmental and social impacts through responsible electronics purchasing.

GEC encourages qualified professionals from different industries, disciplines, and countries to put themselves forward. The organization is particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in areas such as finance, procurement, sustainability, circular economy practices, supply chain management, electronics, international market development, stakeholder relations, public policy, conformity assessment, nonprofit governance, academia, and other disciplines relevant to GEC’s activities.

Board membership offers seasoned experts the opportunity to apply their knowledge toward a mission with global reach while contributing at the strategic, governance, and organizational levels. Newly appointed Directors generally begin their service through participation on a standing committee, with the potential to progress into leadership positions such as Committee Chair or Board Officer.

GEC is seeking individuals who have relevant experience and a strong commitment to supporting the organization’s continued development and success. Interested candidates are required to complete the online Expression of Interest form and submit an up-to-date resume or CV. Applicants may also include a cover letter if they wish.

Expressions of interest will remain open until September 23, 2026.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Lenovo have formalized a strategic partnership through an exchange of letters, marking a joint effort to accelerate global circular economy initiatives. Together, they will design and implement programs that promote sustainable industrialization and responsible management of electronic products.

The collaboration will leverage both organizations’ expertise and networks to expand access to sustainable technology solutions. Key activities will include skills training, awareness campaigns, and capacity-building projects aimed at advancing circular practices throughout international supply chains.

UNIDO advocates for the circular economy as a transformative alternative to traditional linear production, encouraging practices such as circular design, sustainable manufacturing, reuse, recycling, and material recovery across industries. “We look forward to advancing technical cooperation and capacity-building worldwide,” said Ciyong Zou, Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director of UNIDO’s Directorate of Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Industrial Development.

Lenovo has embedded circular economy principles into its operations, including the use of closed-loop recycled materials in its products and sustainability services that support repair, recycling, and reuse. These measures extend product lifecycles and keep valuable resources in circulation.

A cornerstone of the partnership will be the Global Electronics Management (GEM) programme, backed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). UNIDO leads GEM with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the UN Development Programme (UNDP). The initiative spans 16 countries, providing access to finance and technology, influencing policy and legislation, and advancing solutions to cut e-waste and improve resource recovery.
