Transit Technologies has unveiled the inaugural TMAC Client Impact Awards, a new initiative designed to recognize the individuals, teams, and agencies making significant contributions to the public transit industry. Nominations are now being accepted through October 2, 2026, with the award recipients set to be announced during the 2026 Transit Mobility Alliance Conference (TMAC) on Thursday, October 29, in San Antonio, Texas.

"Transit professionals work behind the scenes every day to overcome challenges that passengers rarely notice—from creating efficient detours that reduce travel times to maintaining fleets and expanding transportation access to underserved communities," said Gerry Leonard, CEO of Transit Technologies. "The Client Impact Awards were established to recognize these outstanding efforts and celebrate the people whose work makes a lasting difference across the industry."

Successful transit networks rely on the commitment of countless professionals, including agency executives, frontline employees, operations personnel, and support teams. Their expertise ensures dependable service, enhances customer experiences, and helps transit systems better serve their communities.

Advancing a Sustainable Future
FedEx is committed to enhancing global supply chains by integrating cutting-edge technologies to streamline logistics. These initiatives naturally align with the company’s long-standing efforts to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.

Between fiscal years 2009 and 2023, FedEx achieved a 48% reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent emissions intensity per revenue dollar, even as shipment volumes surged by 121%. The company continues to address climate challenges with a goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations worldwide by 2040, guided by its strategy: decarbonizing where possible, collaborating with purpose, and offsetting remaining emissions.

FedEx remains dedicated to making meaningful progress toward its sustainability objectives while also investing in and advocating for innovative, environmentally friendly technologies that will help transform the transportation and logistics industry.

Transitioning Transportation Fleets and Fuels
Electrification plays a key role in reducing the environmental footprint of FedEx’s extensive fleet, which consists of over 200,000 motorized vehicles. As part of its sustainability commitment, FedEx aims to transition its entire parcel pickup and delivery (PUD) fleet to zero-emission vehicles by 2040. In addition to expanding its electric vehicle (EV) fleet, the company is working to cut emissions from road and air transport by adopting alternative fuels and modernizing its aircraft.

Key initiatives from fiscal year 2024 include:

The introduction of EVs and zero-emission motorcycles in Brazil, alongside additional EV deployments in Canada, Chile, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, the UAE, and the U.S. Since launching EV operations in Mainland China in 2018, FedEx has electrified 20% of its PUD fleet in the region.

A historic cross-border EV delivery from Malaysia to Singapore in February 2024, covering 252 miles and preventing approximately 220 pounds of CO₂ emissions. This achievement was recognized as Malaysia’s first zero-emission cross-border delivery.

The expansion of charging infrastructure at FedEx facilities in the U.S., Spain, Canada, the UK, and the UAE, supporting both company-owned EVs and independent service providers.

The addition of eight four-wheeled e-cargo bikes in the UK to replace diesel vans, five commercial electric tricycles in Taiwan, and a new e-cargo bike model in Canada.

The acquisition of 36 Class 7 and 8 heavy-duty electric trucks for FedEx Freight operations in the U.S.

A pilot program in the UK testing hydrotreated vegetable oil (a renewable diesel) for long-haul trucks to reduce carbon emissions.

Continued modernization of the air fleet, replacing older aircraft with fuel-efficient models. In FY 2024, FedEx retired 31 jet aircraft while introducing 10 new Boeing 767s and four Boeing 777s, contributing to a 29% reduction in emissions intensity since 2005.

Sustainable Facility Innovations
FedEx integrates eco-friendly designs into its facilities to minimize waste, conserve water, and lower carbon emissions. Notable sustainability projects from FY 2024 include:

The revamped gateway at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, featuring a 156-panel solar array generating approximately 95 megawatt-hours of electricity annually—meeting 17% of the facility’s energy needs—alongside LED lighting and a smart water management system.

A "GoGreen" sustainability contest in Mainland China, engaging over 11,000 FedEx employees in conservation efforts.

The launch of a green-certified Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore, where 80% of construction materials meet local sustainability standards. Energy-efficient electrical fixtures and automatic lighting controls further reduce energy use.

A LEED Gold-certified headquarters in Shanghai, China, featuring LED sensor lights that adjust based on employee presence.

A collaboration in Thailand to convert more than 120 kilograms of packaging waste into refuse-derived fuel.

The opening of an environmentally conscious shipping station in Morwell, Australia, equipped with energy-saving lighting and a rainwater collection system.

Supporting Customers and Communities
Beyond its internal sustainability efforts, FedEx provides tools and initiatives to support customers in reducing their carbon footprint while investing in climate solutions and community programs.

FedEx® Sustainability Insights, launched in May 2023, is now available in over 100 markets and 34 languages, enabling customers to estimate and track emissions from their shipments.

Since 2010, FedEx has partnered with the World Resources Institute to develop the Mobility and Accessibility Program (MAP), improving public transportation efficiency and sustainability in cities worldwide. The program has impacted over 23 million people while preventing more than 1 million metric tons of CO₂ emissions. Key projects include expanding Mobility-as-a-Service in Shanghai, supporting India’s goal of deploying 50,000 electric buses by 2027, and enhancing transportation infrastructure in Brazil with 2,000 new bus shelters.

For a second consecutive year, FedEx funded the EIT Climate-KIC Sustainable Cities Mobility Challenge in Europe. In FY 2024, five cities across Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the UK received funding for initiatives aimed at promoting greener, more sustainable transportation.

FedEx continues to make significant strides toward sustainability, investing in technologies and partnerships that help create a cleaner and more resilient future.

Click here to know more about FedEx’s sustainability efforts worldwide.
