The said aim is in line with the “Paris Agreement” of limiting the rise of global temperature to “1.5°C”. Moreover, CBRE’s commitment also include turning to “100% renewable electricity by 2025” including shifting to electric vehicles by replacing its current vehicle fleet.

Moreover, CBRE has also made commitments of “an industry-leading target for emission reductions” in the properties as well as the facilities managed by it which spans across the globe. The aim is to reduce emissions by “79% per square foot by 2035” in the facilities managed by it. While for the investors’ properties under CBRE’s management, the target is to reduce “67% per square foot over the same timeframe”.

There are plans of achieving its “Scope 3” targets in collaboration with CBRE’s “Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) and Property Management clients”. On a global scale CBRE has nearly “7 billion square feet of corporate facilities and commercial properties” under it. While the president as well as the C.E.O of CBRE, Bob Sulentic stated:
“As the world’s largest manager of commercial properties, CBRE can play an outsized role in helping to limit the rise in global temperatures. We are deeply committed to using our expertise, resources and market influence to help our clients sharply reduce the emissions their properties generate and to applying best practices that improve the sustainability of our own operations. This is not only good for the planet—it is good business practice, period.”

References:
3blmedia.com

Dailycsr.com – 30 August 2020 – Globally, “41 tons of food” gets wasted every second. A shocking number to come across more so when seen in context with the global food insecurity figures as people do not have either “sufficient or stable” food access on a daily basis to meet with their basic nutritional needs.

Moreover, the “Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations” informs that over “820 million people” are insecure about food, while Colombia is no exception. As much as “9.76 million tons of food” wastage takes place globally while 54.2% homes experience food insecurity. Additionally, food waste leave repercussion on the environment in the form of landfills and large quantity of methane production.

Methane and CO2 are among the greenhouse gases responsible for heating up the atmosphere of the earth leading to global warming. Juan Carlos Buitrago Ortiz is the director of Food Banks Association in Colombia who talked about the role of food banks in addressing food insecurity and wastage. Herbalife Nutrition is a partner, said Ortiz, that support in the work of supplying “nutritious food to their communities through their Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative”.

To learn more about the ABACO, Asociación de Bancos de Alimentos de Colombia, and how the food bank addresses the food insecurity of “its most vulnerable populations”, kindly click on the link given below:
https://iamherbalifenutrition.com/social-responsibility/food-insecurity-colombia/

References:
3blmedia.com

“We must all recognize the power of our investable dollars to accelerate the transition to a just and sustainable global economy that ensures a livable planet for all of us”, said Lubber, C.E.O and President Ceres.

Dailycsr.com – 21 April 2019 – Three decades have gone by since one of the massive oil tankers of Exxon Valdez had spilled oil into the “pristine Prince William sound” which is located off the Alaskan coast, whereby it released “nearly 11 million gallons of oil” which affected a stretch of “1,300 miles” along the coastline, wrote the President as well as the chief executive officer of Ceres, Mindy Lubber.

The above mentioned spillage was the worst one recorded in the U.S. history, as it devastated the local eco-system and claimed the lives of “hundreds of thousands of birds and fish” while the company had to pay off over “a half billion dollars” as liabilities.

However, it is only a year ago that the citizens of the U.S. got to heart from a “congressional testimony” about the threatening CO2 and other greenhouse gases generated from industrial discharge is causing a gradual global warming as we witness drastic climate change. Many people from various cities in the U.S. have been complaining of air pollution and smog which are damaging their lungs and affecting visibility.

In order to cope with the situation, the congressional leaders have come out with amendments for strengthening its Clean Air Act. As the news of devastation spread across, a “small group of investors” realise that there has to be “a better way of doing business”. Joan Bavaria stood at the helm of these investors’ group and started to operate “as a coalition”. As they went, they brought “other investors and environmentalists” on board for re-evaluating the corporate “role and responsibility” as environment stewards as well as “agents of economic and social change”.

Initially, the coalition was recognised by the names of “Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies”, while later it came to be known as Ceres. The founding investors of the group started working with “environmental groups” and designed the “a groundbreaking code of conduct for companies called the Ceres Principles”.

Following this, Ceres was the co-founder of “Global Reporting Initiative”, in short GRI, which sets the standard for “corporate sustainability reporting”, followed nearly by “13,400 companies”. The reporting framework underscores the “risks and opportunities” and provides tools to measure the impact of companies on the environment, society and the governance at large, besides laying out an action plan.

In the words of Mindy Lubber:
“As we mark 30 years since the ground-breaking investor response to the Exxon oil spill, and Ceres’ founding, we must take stock of how far we have come, and how much we have achieved in tackling some of the greatest sustainability challenges. Investor action on sustainability is no longer a sideline endeavor. Investors working with Ceres have made real inroads shifting capital market systems and incentives to promote sustainability, including by addressing climate-related risks such as those associated with fossil fuels”.

However, Lubber sees much work still remaining to be done in this line. If the world has to attain the goals set by the Paris Agreement, there needs to be a “transformation at a pace and scale the world never has seen before”. Furthermore, Lubber added:
“We must all recognize the power of our investable dollars to accelerate the transition to a just and sustainable global economy that ensures a livable planet for all of us. Going forward, we need investors to step up their efforts and join an all-hands-on-deck effort by all economic sectors, all governments, and all segments of society”.

References:
3blmedia.com

By the year-end to 2020, P&G looks forward to cut down its greenhouse gas production by thirty percent.

Dailycsr.com – 16 September 2015 – Procter & Gamble, commonly known as P&G has set before itself “a new goal” whereby all the facilities of P&G to reduce “greenhouse gas emissions” by thirty percent by the year of 2020. The World Wildlife Fund has also leant a partnership hand in this goal and helped P&G to develop the same. Furthermore, the goal bases itself on the best of science practices available, while it also “represents an important step forward” for the company which has been continuously making its best efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions to minimum so as to prevent a harsh impact on the climate change.

Moreover, P&G will become a part of the “Climate Savers Program” which has been initiated by the World Wildlife Fund. The said programme provides a collaborative platform to all the “leadership companies” so that they can all together strengthen the efforts being made to “address climate change” and hasten the precautious attempts.

The thirty percent reduction in greenhouse gas emission is quite a big responsibility on the part of P&G, which the company undertook after “considering” a presentation of “latest science” on climate change by the “Intergovernmental Panel”. By reducing thirty percent of greenhouse gas emission, P&G will support the “global efforts” of preventing the temperature of the earth to increase by another “two degrees Celsius”. Moreover, P&G seeks scientific “methodologies” which help commercial companies to balance their economic goal with that of “climate science”. P&G gas a global sustainability department, whose vice president, Len Sauers remarked:
“Climate change is a global issue and we believe everyone – companies, governments, and individuals – all have a role to play. We felt it was important to come forward with an ambitious, science-based goal to help do our part to address the challenges that climate change poses.”

The partnership between WWF and P&G has been steadily working to design “new goal(s)” that keep the climate change in mind while implementing the same and measuring its advancements. WWF’s private-sector engagement’s “senior vice president, Suzanne Apple informs:
“We recognize P&G for its leadership in setting a reduction target that is grounded in climate science. This is a significant commitment that will lead to measurable reductions in P&G’s greenhouse gas emissions while inspiring other companies to step up and take action. We are pleased to welcome P&G as the newest member of our Climate Savers Program, which serves to recognize industry leaders who are pursuing innovative and cost effective solutions to climate change.”

Furthermore, the company of Procter and Gamble is to set its new goals in line with becoming a green energy consumer, whereby it wishes to retain its focus on conserving energy usage besides investing into renewable energy systems. The group president of P&G, Martin Riant, who is also the “executive sponsor for Global Sustainability”, says:
“We set this goal with the firm belief that it will be good for the environment and good for our business. Energy conservation and increasing renewable energy will not only drive emission reductions, but will decrease costs and help create innovative solutions that will help our brands win with consumers.”

References:
http://www.businesswire.com
