PolicyLab at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has released a new report that reviews scientific evidence supporting ten key economic security policy areas. Developed in collaboration with the Maternity Care Coalition (MCC), the report concludes that expanding or introducing these policies could strengthen financial stability for children and families, especially as cost-of-living pressures continue to rise. Although the report is targeted mainly at policymakers in Pennsylvania, it also offers relevant insights for officials in other states.

“Studies indicate that only about half of individuals born in the 1980s—many of whom are now parents of young children—earn more than their parents did, which raises significant concerns about children’s financial security and opportunities for upward mobility,” said Dr. Meredith Matone, Director of PolicyLab. “Our review highlights how programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and Head Start can positively influence children’s long-term health, education, and financial outcomes when families receive support starting in pregnancy and early childhood.”

This report is part of PolicyLab’s Evidence to Action series, which translates high-quality academic and community-based research into practical recommendations that policymakers can use to improve outcomes for children and families.

“The findings provide a roadmap for state legislators in Pennsylvania and nationwide to strengthen economic security for families now and in the years ahead,” said Rebecka Rosenquist, PolicyLab’s Deputy Director for Policy and Strategy.

“We analyze how each policy area affects children’s long-term health, educational success, and financial stability, and assess the potential benefits of expanding or introducing these policies. While each policy is important on its own, implementing them together could create meaningful progress for children and families.”

The Philadelphia Eagles are collaborating with Tork, a professional hygiene brand based in Philadelphia, for the third year in a row to launch the 2023 “Tackle Hygiene with Every Catch” initiative. The goal of this program is to raise awareness about the importance of good hygiene and to promote its benefits. Essity, the parent company of Tork, will donate essential hygiene products such as hand sanitizer, paper roll towels, and toilet paper to two Philadelphia organizations for every catch made by the Eagles during the season.

These organizations are Project HOME, which works to address the root causes of poverty and homelessness in Philadelphia, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the oldest pediatric hospital in the United States, which aims to be a global leader in children’s healthcare through excellent patient care, innovative research, and quality professional education.

The total donation will be up to $40,000. This partnership with the Eagles reflects Tork’s commitment to building a healthy, sustainable, and strong community.

Brian Napoli, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Philadelphia Eagles, said that performing at a high level is important both on and off the field. He went on to add, they are proud of their partnership with Tork for the past 16 years and their leadership in sustainability.

By using Tork’s innovative hygiene solutions, they can provide a superior fan experience at Lincoln Financial Field and make a meaningful impact in their community through the annual “Tackle Hygiene with Every Catch” campaign. In the past two years, $65,500 worth of Tork’s innovative and sustainable hygiene solutions have been donated to local charities.

“Tork is committed to providing innovative, sustainable hygiene solutions – from the 70,000 cheering fans at Lincoln Financial Field to those who benefit every day from the important work of local nonprofits like Project HOME and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia,” said Matthew Urmanski, VP Sales & Marketing North America, Essity Professional Hygiene.

“We are proud to once again partner with the Philadelphia Eagles for this meaningful community initiative. ‘Tackle Hygiene With Every Catch’ allows us to bring awareness to the importance of sustainability hygiene to fans and community members alike.”
