Schneider Electric: Advancing Universal Energy Access and Sustainable Solutions
Schneider Electric unveiled its latest innovation, Villaya Flex, a microgrid solution aimed at revolutionizing energy management and automation. Launched during the Alliance for Rural Electrification Energy Access Investment Forum 2024 in Lagos, Nigeria, the event serves as a platform for both public and private sector stakeholders to address energy accessibility issues, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.

With approximately 756 million individuals globally lacking access to electricity, the importance of providing clean and affordable energy cannot be overstated, especially in regions like sub-Saharan Africa, where 80% of those without electricity reside.

Villaya Flex offers a comprehensive microgrid solution tailored for communities, prioritizing clean energy utilization while mitigating pollution resulting from conventional genset usage. Engineered to facilitate the transition towards decarbonized and self-sufficient electricity, it addresses contemporary energy challenges effortlessly. The solution boasts scalability in battery storage, making sizing, ordering, commissioning, operation, and maintenance seamless.

Its key components include a versatile hybrid power conversion unit, battery storage capabilities for efficient energy capture and storage, an energy control center for centralized management of diverse energy sources, and an advanced, cyber-secure digital monitoring platform. The platform comprises EcoStruxure Microgrid Advisor for energy production management, EcoStruxure Energy Access Expert for demand-side management, and EcoStruxure Microgrid Build for simplified system design.

“Villaya Flex is a renewable energy solution that provides energy access as a more sustainable and affordable option for off-grid communities “, said Bala Vinayagam, SVP Microgrid Line of Business, Schneider Electric. “This solution is designed for off-grid communities and remote villages facing energy shortages, limited access to electricity, and high fuel costs.”

Schneider Electric is broadening its array of products and solutions to support the UN's goal of achieving universal access to energy by 2030.

Albert Fuchet, Global VP of Access to Energy at Schneider Electric, emphasized the company's commitment to advancing investments in renewable electrification, sustainable electricity access, climate action, and addressing energy skills challenges during the event. He also expressed Schneider Electric's intention to explore collaboration opportunities with both public and private sectors to foster a sustainable and inclusive energy transition, ensuring equitable access to energy for all.

During the event, Schneider Electric will introduce various innovative solutions aimed at enhancing energy accessibility. Its experts will deliver presentations on key themes such as facilitating investments in renewable electrification, decentralizing the renewable energy sector, and expediting the clean energy transition in sub-Saharan Africa.

As an Impact company, Schneider Electric is dedicated to promoting progress and sustainability for everyone. Through its Access to Energy program, initiated in 2009, Schneider Electric aims to provide clean and dependable energy access to 50 million people worldwide by 2025.
