Aurora Organic Dairy Remains Faithful To Its ‘Cow-To-Carton’ Model Even After Bagging Some Early Achievements

10/10/2017

Taking into account animals, people and the planet, the organic milk producer has carved out a niche in the market for itself that demonstrates its sincere commitments towards its social and environmental responsibilities.

Dailycsr.com – 10 October 2017 – Aurora Organic Dairy leads the market as the “producer of organic milk for store brand retailers” with its organic farmyards stretching over “75,000 acres” under the guidance of “100 independent farmers” along with its dairies surrounded by “12,000 organic pasture acres”.

Equipped with the above mentioned facilities, Aurora Organic Dairy spreads positive impacts on “animals, people and the environment” while keenly maintaining its focus on “animal welfare, employee care and environmental stewardship”. As a result, it has come out with its CSR report that enumerates “its progress toward corporate citizenship goals”. In the year of 2012, the company had established “five-year goals” target, whereby as on the year end of 2016, it moved “on track to surpass several” of its goals.

Here is a list of the activities in the above mentioned lines, as mentioned by the Ethical Performance:
  • Water reduction and efficiency goals for its milk processing operations were exceeded, with a 19% reduction in plant water use per half gallon of milk processed.
  • 90% of irrigation pivots at Aurora Organic’s dairy farms are now equipped with smart technology to make the most efficient use of irrigation water. GPS technology investments made to improve soil health.
  • The Company’s dairy farms made significant strides in improving animal welfare, including a 31% reduction in lameness in the overall herd, exceeding its 2017 goal of a 20% reduction.
  • Aurora Organic Dairy’s farms are certified for the highest standards of animal care and employee care by Validus.
  • In the People goal area, Aurora Organic Dairy reported a 28% reduction in plant worker injuries and an 11% reduction in farm worker injuries.
  • Employee benefits were bolstered to provide a shorter work week for all farm employees, and paid parental leave for all employees.

While, the Chief Executive Officer as well as the Founder of the Dairy, Marc Peperzak, stated:
“Throughout our 40-year history, we have learned that doing things more sustainably for our animals, people and the planet, is good business. We continue to demonstrate that, through this focus, our ability to grow responsibly brings the benefits of organic dairy products to more people in more places.”

The CSR report of Aurora Organic Dairy 2017 deals with the company’s commitment towards “Animals, People and the Planet” besides touching upon all the CSR goals of the company, which the reports communicates in a transparent manner and recounts about “its successes”, although it does not neglect the areas wherein “more improvement is needed”.

Most importantly, even after achieving some of its goals earlier than targeted, the company does not lose its aim and recognises that more remains “to be done” and “looks forward to establishing new long-term goals in 2018”.
