Canary Wharf Group Strives On To Create ‘Inspiring, Resilient Places” For “A Positive Impact”

The sustainability report of Canary Wharf Group for the year of 2015 is now available.


Dailycsr.com – 28 September 2016 – The recent Sustainability Report of Canary Wharf Group provides a glimpse into its activities and commitments in its “four key areas”: “Making Great Places; Pioneering Innovation; Promoting Inclusive Growth; Optimising Our Performance”.
 
The Canary Wharf Group proudly enumerates of its “achievements”, while continuing its strive perform better and more. However, it midst of this attempt, it never forgets to celebrate “its successes”, whereby the report includes a portion that “identifies its targets and points for improvement”.
 
Here are some of the highlights of the report under each category, as mentioned by the Ethical Performance:
Making Great Places
  • Canary Wharf Group portfolio GRESB 5 Green Star Rated
  • Canary Wharf Estate attracts phenomenal talent pool of 115,000 diverse people and companies
  • 16 million sq ft office and 1million sq ft retail created with 11million sq ft residential and mixed use planned
 
Pioneering Innovation
  • Home to Europe’s largest tech accelerator for finance, retail, cyber-security and future cities
  • First Project to be awarded Considerate Constructor Scheme ULTRASITE Status
 
Promoting Inclusive Growth
  • 43% of Group spending was on local companies
  • £2.87m total investment in community engagement projects and programmes
  • £1.2 billion local spend since 1997
  • £4.3 million the value of contracts won in 2015 by companies registered with SLPN
 
Optimising Our Performance
  • 8.5% reduction in emissions over last 3 years
  • 100% of Canary Wharf Group electricity from renewable sources
  • Zero waste to landfill across CWML-managed areas for sixth consecutive year
  • 7,772 m2 green and brown roofs planned
 
 
Four of Canary Wharf’s projects received “FSC ® Full Project Certification” in the year of 2015, while the company has also bagged multiple “industry awards and recognitions” that ranges from stewardship in the areas of “health & safety, environmental design & construction and contribution to the community”. In the words of the Chairman as well as the C.E.O of Canary Wharf Group, Sir George Iacobescu CBE:
