Optimize Your Education: Secure Scholarships with SPC's First-Come, First-Served Funding
Duke Energy Florida has declared a generous donation of $50,000 towards St. Petersburg College's (SPC) Promise Scholarship program. This initiative aims to facilitate the 2024 graduates from eight Pinellas County high schools, allowing them to attend SPC without incurring any costs.

The financial support from Duke Energy Florida will cover tuition and fees for upcoming high school graduates pursuing associate degrees or certificates eligible for financial aid.

Melissa Seixas, the state president of Duke Energy Florida, expressed gratitude for the longstanding collaboration between Duke Energy Florida and SPC. This partnership, marked by shared community commitment, has spanned various activities, including storm response efforts, employee education, and the successful implementation of the Electrical Lineworker program. Seixas emphasized the pride in supporting the Promise Scholarship, anticipating a positive and enduring impact on the future workforce and generations to come.

SPC's Promise Scholarship, initially launched as a pilot program in the previous year for graduates from five high schools with the highest poverty rates in Pinellas County, expanded to include eight schools in 2023. Over 460 students benefited from the scholarship in 2023, demonstrating the program's success and impact.

“This generous donation from Duke Energy helps us continue our promise to educate students into better jobs, better lives and better futures,” said Dr. Tonjua Williams, SPC president. “We have collaborated with Duke Energy on many initiatives over the years and greatly appreciate their continued support of SPC and our students. They are intentional in their philanthropic endeavors, always striving to advance the community.”

Scholarship funds are distributed based on a first-come, first-served approach. Upon submission of an SPC application, students will receive instructions for the subsequent steps in the process.
